Core Scientist: Bin Bao, PhD

The Flow Cytometry Core offers advanced spectral flow cytometry and high-parameter cell analysis to support cutting-edge research in immunology, inflammation, and epithelial biology.

At the heart of the Core is the BD Symphony A5 SE, a premier spectral flow cytometer that delivers unmatched sensitivity, flexibility, and resolution for complex multiparameter experiments. This system enables deep immune profiling, spectral unmixing, and discovery-driven analysis that go far beyond conventional flow cytometry.

The BD LSR Fortessa serves as our classic, rock-solid cytometer, providing reliable and reproducible results for routine immune profiling and functional assays. Together, these instruments offer both high-dimensional innovation and dependable performance for all research needs. The Core supports a broad range of applications, including: 1) Immunophenotyping and rare cell analysis; 2) Intracellular cytokine and signaling assays; 3) Cell cycle, viability, and apoptosis studies; 4) Calcium flux and receptor internalization assays.

A BD Melody Cell Sorter is also available for gentle, high-purity sorting of specific cell populations for downstream applications (scRNAseq, CRISPR Screening, etc.).

Core scientists provide expert consultation on panel design, experimental planning, and data interpretation.

Consultation & Training

Access to the Symphony A5 SE, Fortessa, Canto and Melody require training with Bin Bao, PhD. Training will provide the new users with hands-on in instrument operation, spectral setup, and troubleshooting. After demonstrating proficiency, users may reserve and operate instruments independently, with ongoing support from Core scientist as needed.
